* embroidered change purse

This is from my new zakka book. (A library update is impending, I promise.) The neat thing about this book is that it’s apparently by the proprietresses of several zakka shops, and it includes the links to them all. This pattern’s by timpani. Look in the gallery for tons of cute stuff.
The frame (a sew-on one from Lacis) I had wasn’t quite the same as the one in the book, so I had to make a few adjustments, but it’s otherwise pretty close to the pattern. The embroidery is done just with the straight stitch on my machine, plus some extra bits by hand. I traced the pattern on some tracing paper, pinned it to the linen, and sewed right over it. The paper was a little annoying to tear off afterward, but not too bad. The pink linen is from the scrap swap I posted about last week. I also used it for the lining. Not pictured, I used a long ball chain for a handle.

Your way using the frame is little different from what I see from other people’s.
Maybe you can check the following website to see a tutorial.

Yeah, it’s different from the intended design in a couple of ways. First, it’s a sew-on frame instead of the type that crimps down on the fabric. I think it changes the look a bit. Second, I used the pattern in the book and only realized that the frame was different once it was already sewn together. To make it fit I had to cut off some bits, which changed the shape. Even though it doesn’t look entirely like a normal one, I’m pretty happy with it.

Really nice scene - serene and peaceful… almost reminds me of the holidays, even though the colors are more of a spring pallette. Beautiful!

Do you use a regular sewing machine for embroidery, or one designed for machine embroidering?

Thanks for all the compliments! Kate, it’s just a plain sewing machine. I used the straight stitch with the feed dogs up, just like for normal sewing. If you go slow, you have a lot of control. I had white thread in the bobbin, and just changed the top color. Since it’s just one layer of fabric, you may need to fiddle with the tension so the bobbin thread doesn’t show.

Oh Man, if anyone could make use of my Inspiration Wednesday Links you can. Thanks for stopping by, from my brief look at your blog you are very talented!! I don’t know about whether or not she may have felted directly onto the fabric. With a pile like that, appliqué would not have shown. Please, if you try it, let me know. I would love to know.
