zakka tray

I made this little patchwork tray out of my Zakka book (see library). I was originally making it for my keys, but I forgot about seam allowances and it's a little bit too small. So maybe jewelry or pins or something.

that is awesome! is there anything giving it structure besides the fabric?

Ditto to Hannah - did you use interfacing, or is the fabric stiff enough to give it body? Very cute!

The little diagram in the book seems to indicate interfacing, but I didn't use any on this little one. It seems fine without it. If I make a bigger one (the book has them as a cute set), I definitely will. I originally tried it with thin batting, thinking it would look more quilty, but it just looked puffy and the walls wouldn't stay up.

I LOVE all the Japanese crafts you post on your blog. I'd love to try some but I'm wondering how you follow the patterns. Would I need to know how to read Japanese?
