* Vintage rebeading

I was at home for my sister’s graduation this past weekend. My mom’s gotten into beading recently, and she’d been going through my grandma’s old jewelry looking for interesting beads. One of her finds was this 4-stranded necklace made of neat beads that didn’t seem to match. I cut the strands apart and made two necklaces and a bracelet.
My favorite is the bracelet. The awesome clasp is from the original necklace, and instead of 4 strands, I just put 2 strands of one type of bead.
A necklace with the same beads, knotted on silk thread with extra seed beads on either side. My mom taught me a nifty technique for knotting the thread right up next to the beads.
The other necklace was just restringing these neat beads that look like rice.

Nice. I was doing the same thing with some necklaces of my grandmother’s a few weeks ago. She was a very bosomy woman and her necklaces are WAAAAY too long for me… so I have a matching necklace, bracelet, and earrings now, from a single necklace of hers.
All in all it is a good thing, because I discovered that the original thread was very frayed and probably would break in a little while. So, good to be doing spring maintenance on the jewelry.

Wonderful bracelet. How special that it was your Grandma’s jewelry and that your Mom is into jewelry making too. When my daughter and I get together we create some necklaces and bracelets. You’d think we went to the moon, we get so pleased with our results. She lives out of state so we only get creative a few times a year but its so much fun.

I recently bought a beaded and sequened dress that is in need of rebeading. Do you do something like this and if so how much would something like this cost?
