Amazon Japan ISBN search page
Link to the books search page on Amazon Japan, which, among other things, lets you look stuff up by ISBN. For anyone else trying to navigate foreign Amazon pages, all the sites seem to be derived from a common ancestor, so they have homologies. Like, the tab for books is the third tab over on the front page of both the American and Japanese page, then search is the first link on the green bar across the top of the books page. Same thing works for single book pages: the link below the book title brings up all the books by that author, at the bottom of the page the links next to the checkboxes go to other books in the same category, etc. Beware: the coveting potential is much much worse than the couple dozen Japanese craft books on eBay. Although, unlike the American Amazon page, it doesn't look like you can see inside pages of any of the Japanese books, just cover zooms.

I know what you mean about Amazon Japan being dangerous - I just placed my first order and it was *way* too easy!

I agree with Kelly. I think I might have started a dangerous new obsession, and I haven't even received my first order yet!
Hello, by the way. I've been reading your blog for a while now, but just got around to commenting.

UGH...I guess I am stupid. Every link for this site from you and others....I cannot find the english version!!!!! Don't read Japanese so I can't even figure out where to type in the ISBN number!!!!! HELPPPPPPPPPPP

Hi, if you follow the link, it says ISBN on one of the fields. They have some help in English, but it's a Japanese site. You can't expect them to have everything in English. YesAsia is easier to navigate, plus you can get free shipping if you buy more than $39. Good luck!

You guys might want to try google's web page translator (follow the "language tools" link at google.com and scroll down). It is far from perfect and often very funny, but definitely makes it easier to navigate.

I've been having a problem getting my credit card to go through at amazon.jp. Two different Visa cards have been used (neither are anywhere near their limits), and each have failed. When the bank was contacted they had no idea what had gone wrong and they had to contact the Visa company(they could see that Amazon.jp had attempted the transaction, but they didn't know why it had been declined). The bank called back and said they were told that Visa has been having problems with lots of fraudulent sales coming through Tokyo, so they are currently declining transactions from there. Now I'm giving it a try with Mastercard with my fingers crossed. Has anyone else had similar problems? I'm under the impression it's a fairly recent thing.

Hi petula, I haven't heard of anyone else having problems, but thanks for the alert. Good luck!

Have you had any problems with the address not being accepted on the amazon jp site? I can fill out the international shipping form, but i get an error that my book cannot be sent to my address. Maybe they do not like Elvis or something?

Sorry, mtb, I've never actually ordered anything from Amazon.jp, so I can't help. :/
Posted by: Maitreya at February 7, 2006 08:37 PM
mtb (and Maitreya), you'll get the address not being accepted when you order a book that is being sent from another seller (not amazon). Make sure that another seller is not being listed for that book first. If there is another seller, take that book out of your cart, and you should be able to complete your order. I hope that solves your problem.

I found a book I wanted but it is used and therefore only ships to either Japan or China, so I am out of luck.

Hi - I'm totally new at this "blogging" thing. But enough about that . . . I've been trying to find books like yours on YesAsia but can't seem to find a thing. What search words are you using? I'm dying to try some of those adorable Japanese items. Thanks!

I tried to order an out of print book (hence v expensive in uk and us) on the amazon japan site as its a japanese book anyway but when I tried to log in with my amazon password it wouldnt let me. I take it its still part of the whole amazon network or do you have to have a new japanese account? shame as I would have saved close to a hundred pounds getting the book from japan. Anyone?

Not one for posting stuff on forums, but thought someone might be able to help. We're trying to purchase a rare dvd off Amazon JP with my friends Amazon account based in the UK. All goes well up untill we try to buy, and then it wont recognize our login password, although it does let us sign into our account. Any advice here would be much appreciated.
