Blythe!
Well, I finally did it. After several months of combing eBay and the This Is Blythe forum, I finally broke down and bought myself a Blythe doll. I decided early on that I wanted a redhead without bangs. At first I was just going to get a Petite, but there aren't nearly as many clothes patterns for the petites, and I want the eye color changing anyway. The finalists were: Birdie Blue, Powwow Poncho, French Trench, and, the one I ended up with, the new Ashton Drake Galleries reproduction of one of the original dolls. The warnings are that you can never have just one, and if I do get another it will be French Trench. The ADG hair is more appealing, though, and she's a little bit cheaper since she doesn't ship from Asia.
I already made her a dress and a coat, and I'm almost done with a sweater. The dress is from the ever-so-generous Oriettacat's pattern library. Look for the simple dress pattern. I think I may have printed it out at the wrong scale because it was really hard to get it on, and it looks more like a minidress.
The coat is also from Oriettacat, but in another library. Look for the duffel coat pattern. This one didn't have directions, and it was harder to put together. I'm still not sure I did it right. It's made of felt and fastened with an earring. I think I'm going to add some other decoration to it. We'll see.
I'm still working on how best to photograph her. :/

Hello!
So how much can one pay for a Blythe doll without 'overpaying'? Are they still being made?
I used to buy Barbies (sorry, if I offend anyone) for my daughters, they've now progressed to 'My Scenes' and Bratz. I used to knit for Barbies before my last girl arrived :)

Hi Benita, yes, they are still being made. There's a Japanese company called Takara that makes most of them, but mine is made by an American company that may or may not make more. Kenner was the original maker, and those go for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. A "good price" for a new one varies hugely depending on the collectability of the different dolls. I paid ~$80 (US) for mine. You could probably find one for closer to $60 if you looked on eBay and you weren't too particular about which one. Watch out for the shipping costs since most of them come from Asia.

Ha, you're just like me. My finallists were Pow Wow, French Trench, Lounging Lovely, and the Flower Power ADG. I've got one coming in the mail in the next week or two. What are you naming yours?
Mine was US $65, but, as I live in Australia, shipping (EMS, the good kind), was $30 (gasp!). But oh well. I'm looking forward to her arriving. Did yours have the orange spotted underwear I hear about?

Found your blog. Loved looking at your pictures. I discovered Blythe last year when I bought the same Ashton Drake doll on a whim. I've pretty much fallen under her unusual spell, so I recently bought a Mademoiselle Rosebud.

I just bought my first Blythe (French Trench) she out of her box and on my bookcase looking at me disrespectfully as I type,she wants all the attention. Mimi was £80 about $150 and worth every penny. I am so with you on the now you have one you want another one. I deffo want one with bangs and a centre parting as her side parting is a little difficult to style, she has an 'up do' at the moment. So please to find that there are patterns for clothes I am going to dust off my old sewing machine and get going on a D&G rip off collection!! I want to take her to paris soon. I am a boy and I live in London.

hi, i just ordered my first(and i already know not my last) blythe from a strange little website specialising in designer toys. its only a simple doll, but as im a designer myself i will set to work as soon as i get her and make her a very special girl!good vibes all you blythe-ists x

Hi! I came across your blog when I was searching for Blythe clothes patterns! I recently discovered Blythes and although I have never collected dolls, I find myself intrigued by them! I love the clothes and they are really cute. My favorite is the My Best Friend - I am looking for an inexpensive one as we speak. I was wondering, how you sewed the patterns you did? I have had those sites in my favorites, however I dont really understand how to make the patterns without instructions? I am not the strongest sewer. Do you have any tips?? Thanks
